The History of Islam Islam is a religion that was founded in 622 C.E. Its origin is traced to the Arabian Peninsula, and currently has an estimated 1.5 billion followers’ worldwide. The sacred texts that are associated with Islam is the Qur’an and Allah is the Deity they pay homage to. Muslims believe that there is only one true God and several time per day, they stop everything to participate in prayer rituals. The region, in which Islam was founded, was a melting pot of religious beliefs. There were small concentrations within the region that practiced Judaism and Christianity, but the religions were overshadowed by cults of the Tribal Gods that participate in barbaric practices. It also declares that God’s messenger is Muhammad. This affirms obedience to God through receipt of his message as shown to the people through Muhammad. This affirmation of faith suggests admission of the follower into the all-encompassing community of Muslims and is mandatory in converting to Islam. Pillar # 2 Pillar two consists of the five daily prayers that must take place, which shows the supporter’s obedience to God and serves as shared, tangible proof of the devotion to Islam. Prayers are carried out right before sunrise, at midday, in midafternoon, right after dusk, and at nightfall, between an hour following dusk and midnight. Prayers are to be directed towards Mecca and should be performed in a state of ceremonial cleanliness, attained by either a bath or ceremonial cleansing. Pillar # 3 Pillar three is the giving of alms. This is in remembrance of one s all-inclusive social duties to the public, to a representative of a local mosque, of the Islamic government or to a religious officer. In other words, the giving of alms is about contributions given to the indigent. It is beneficial to the poor and helps the contributor by moving him or her towards more devoutness and obedience to Allah. The giving of alms is thought to be a form of reverence to God. Helyar described Scrushy as a terror CEO, who created a very intimidating, controlling, based on fear and pressure corporate culture. His meetings were torture and pure harassment; many employees have reported that they were humiliated, made fun of, and treated with disrespect. As the company grew, Richard Scrushy was becoming more and more paranoid. He hired bodyguards, made special entrance ways to the buildings for himself, and spied on his employees. (Helyar, 2003). HealthSouth during the good times The company was performing extremely well in through the mid- 1990s. HealthSouth was the largest Healthcare organization in America, fortune 500 company on the list, with winning stock market record. Scrushy in public was viewed as the most loved, admired, and high paid CEO in the Healthcare industry. From the outside, HealthSouth was doing unbelievably well. As Jeanine Ibrahim (2013) described, Scrushy lived high, putting â€Å"charismatic exterior on the show†. Therefore, on the outside, there were no external flags raised, but on the inside, the organization was boiling. Collapse of HealthSouth In 2002, Scrushy started to have a bad feeling about the organization. He sold a lot of his shares, and was determined to divide the company in half and separate the finances. He was on the way out, when all fiasco has started in the accounting department. The financial problem that originated in the 1996, instead of being revealed, got covered with fake numbers, and the umbers grew year after year. After the former CFO, Weston, blew the whistle, the process of the investigation has begun. The audits were performed and the findings were announced. According to Bergeniv,Magath, and Weld (2004), a very through audit conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers noted that HealthSouth Corporations cumulative earnings were exaggerated by anywhere from $3. 8 billion to $4. 6 billion. HealthSouth agreed to the forensic audit discovery of at least another $1. 3 billion dollars in suspect financial reporting in addition to the previously estimated $2. 5 billion. The very last report found additional fraud of $500 million, and secured at least $800 million of improper money usage for high bonuses, third party transactions, and accounting reserves. These very findings have put an end to the long term fraud activity at HealthSouth. The federal government was shocked and disappointed. However, Scrushy’s freedom was only short lived, due to the next trial, based on the political bribery charges, that put him in jail for 82 months (Pavlo, 2012). Besides his jail time, Scrushy was also made to pay back $36 million fine and give away his assets. Conclusion I believe, to this day, there are people who struggle to answer the question of who Richard Scrushy really was in the business arena. Some continue to think of him as a business genius, but maybe, the facts speak for themselves. Though he denied any involvement in the fraud occurrence, the evidence was established to confirm that he was aware of many ongoing fraudulent activities in the finance department at HealthSouth. As a CEO, his job was to know and approve the budgets and check all the balances. Perhaps, he was both: a self-made, hardworking, and unbelievably smart person, who lacked business ethics and allowed his personal interests to be present in the core of every decision that was made. According to Werner (2003), it really did not matter in 2003, because everybody lost back then. Unfortunately, not just he reputation of Richard Scrushy suffered; the government, stakeholders, and the whole society, in general, have failed and suffered as well. The government failed to control the auditing from the very start of this organization, therefore, the stakeholders lost their money, resulting in the negative influence on the American society and economy. Equally as important as foreshadowing in the movie is also the lighting used to establish a darker characteristic in Norman. Lighting is an important tool used in the movie that supports details about Norman being a dark and sinister hereafter. Though it is a black and white movie, Alfred Hitchcock did a marvelous Job showing the differences between a good character and bad character with the use of lighting. The lighting would get darker or brighter in a different scene depending on whether it is Norman that is being shown or an opposing character. For example, when Marion and Norman were talking in the parlous, Marion always seemed to be brighter than everything else while there was a constant shadow surrounding Norman. This was particularly strange as they were in the same room and the cackling was also the same for the two of them. This supports the idea that Norman is the antagonist as he is shown in the shadows which is most often accompanied with dark characters in movies. Another example of how lighting enhances his evil persona would be during the shower scene. Everything in the bathroom is all white and illuminated but as the psycho approaches, there is a darkness that fills the entire room as Norman (or Mother) approaches to kill Marion. This was very effective to showcase his character as it made him seem really dark and unapproachable. A IANAL example would be at the very end of the movie, when Normals psychological disorder is revealed and Mother has taken over. This scene uses lighting to enhance his sinister character effectively as the entire room is well lit yet he still has hooded eyelids and shadows surrounding his eye-nose-mouth region to imply his dark nature. This effect was created by having light shine directly over his head which lead to the shadows that were on his face and another revelation about his dark nature. This evidence from the movie proves that lighting was a very relevant and effective technique to use when trying to portray Norman Bates evil character. With the use of techniques like symbolism, foreshadowing and lighting one can really influence how the audience perceive a character in a movie. In conclusion, we can see that these three aspects were used effectively in Psycho to correctly portray the sinister characteristics of Norman Bates as they all showcased how he changed from an innocent protagonist into the evil, psycho antagonist that we know him as. It is fairly inaccurate for an outsider to look at a job and think what they see is the job. Usually they only see a small portion of it, much like an iceberg. When they finally get to that career, many people are in for a rude awakening.Another fairly common mistake is to not realize that the biggest path to career success is how well you interact with others – your boss, management, peers, etc. It’s called emotional intelligence. It can be learned, but a big issue is not mastering, much less realizing you need to. We go to school to learn specific things, but the one thing we’re left to figure out on our own is soft skills. Very little is actually taught to help people with this aspect. Some people figure it out on their own; others sputter along being victimized by their own lack of insight.What advice do you have on using online job searches to find your next job†¦what are some best practices?A job candidate can’t rely solely on posted jobs to find a job. They want to still connect with people inside the companies they want to work in. You have to assume that the posted jobs are only a small representation of what actually exists for available jobs. That means you do want to obtain referrals to people you can connect to and do informational interviews with.In terms of online job search, you need to ensure your resume has key words specific to the position you are seeking. About 80 percent of most companies use some form of applicant tracking system, which means your resume needs to be à ¢â‚¬Å"computer friendly† so it can be found in the system. Key words help the computer find your resume when the hiring person is ready.How do you think online job sites can make the job-hunting process easier for both employers and job seekers?The job sites don’t just have job descriptions; they are a rich search engine that a job seeker can use to find appropriate jobs.
